Default Catalytic Converter 2006 Pontiac Vibe

Hi! I was told by the dealer in July that I needed a Catalytic Converter. Price installed, almost $700.00, My local muffler shop quoted me $400.00. Priced around, and one muffler shop told me that it was a dealer item only because it came in 2 parts. Another muffler shop told me $500.00. I had installed at local muffler shop. Check engine light came back after 2 weeks. Car continues to run great, just the light. Code reads a catalytic converter. Brought back to muffler shop in late September. They then told me the back half of the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. Because of the one muffler shop telling me that it came in two parts, I believed and replaced for another $160.00. Light came back on in two more days. Car continues to run great. Just the light. Does anyone know about after market catalytic converters for the Vibe? Front wheel drive, basic model, 4 cyl engine. Has anyone else run across a similar problem? Would like some info before I return to the muffler shop.

$400 for catalytic converter of 2006 model is too much. You should not pay more than $300 in any case. Try some other place.
