I have a 99 Sunfire with a 2.2L 4cyl. (51K mi) and ever since I've had it (about 6-7 months) it's had a motor noise to it. It's a whining noise that gets significantlylouder as RPM increases. It sounds like a bad power steering pump, but the sound is constant. I have ruled out the power steering, but not the water pump yet. A guy told me that what it might be is the timing chain rubbing on the guide plate inside the motor. Is this normal for this motor, or do I have something wrong?
