Grand Prix This long running model has seen many changes, from a large RWD car, to a smaller RWD car, to a small FWD car, to a large FWD car, and with its available supercharged engines, and powerful V8s, it has never left the limelight as one of the most popular cars in America.

Default 2006 GP Voltage Problems

I have a 2006 GP with 35,800 miles on it. I have had voltage issues with it since October 2007.

On occasion, the Battery is dead in the mornings, dead as in won't even turn on the dome light.

Several times, while driving at interstate speeds, the battery has drained to the point where the engine dies, somewhere around 10.8 to 11.1 volts on the DIC.I have a second meter that agrees with the voltage most of the time. The car will run for around 20 minutes normally and then the voltage swings wildly from 12.4 to 16.9 volts. Typically after that nonsense starts, the car will die in 30 minutes. I have been stranded 5 times, roughly 70 miles from home, once in 4 degree temperatures.

The dealer has had the car a dozen times and is, so far, unable to fix the problem. I have resorted to carrying 2 extra batteries so I have a shot at getting back home.

GM has been less then reassuring that they can and will fix the problem and since my warranty expires soon, I have no confidence that I will be taken care of.

Can anyone suggest a solution or a point of contact at GM who can assist me in getting my car fixed?

Thanks for your time,

Lew Heifner
