Grand AM Security Light
Right aftert my extended warranty expired at 75K miles, my 2002 Grand Am stalled. It would crank but not start. Friend said to leave key at "on" position for 15 mins and then try. It worked! So thats good.
However....
A few months later, the security light came on while drivingI stopped immidetely andrestarted the car andthe light went away. Happenned a week later as well.Restarted and the light went away. Should I spend $75 bucks to get this checked at the dealership? Thanks.

RE: Grand AM Security Light
Apparantly this has been a problem with several pontiac cars. We had ours fixed at the dealership (luckily we had an extended warrany). They said it was in the ignition module or something like that. If you look in the owners manual it tells about waiting 10 minutes with the key on to reset the security light. But our grand am starting doing it more often until it did it 3 times in one day. Then we finally took it to the dealer.

RE: Grand AM Security Light
Thanks Shannon. Just about to pick up my Grand Am. Cost me $806 to fix....dang!
Yes..they said it was due to something like "Ignition Cylinder fix" and "steering column fix" and resetting securty codes and getting me two new keys. They also said that the fuel injectors needed cleaning.
No money for a new car and in laws coming into town very soon so had to get this fix. Boy..$806 is a lot of money but what to do.

Dealership should know this problem and will definitely take care of it. But the labor costs is always too pricey compared to other mechanic who specializes this problem.
