1966 Tempest, no spark?
I recently obtained a 1966 Tempest with the 326 and having trouble starting it. No suprise since it has been sitting in a barn for the last 20 some odd years, but I have had the chance to change the starter and the engine isn't froze up it will crank over just not fire. I have also changed the spark plugs, but I don't think they are sparking. I'm praying the distributor is still in working condition. It could the the coil? condenser?Any ideas on the problem? Thanks in advance for any advice.

RE: 1966 Tempest, no spark?
Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. More than likely after sitting that long you have a dirty set of points. Check the set of points for voltage. Make sure when the points close that the voltage goes to 0V. check the coil wire to ground when you close the points and it should spark a healthy blue spark. Check at the + side of the coil for voltage with the key on. You can do an easy check of the coil with a piece of wire. Disconnect the wire on the - side of the coil. you should now have 12v on the - side of the coil. ground the - side and a spark should happen on the coil wire. If all this is good, the final check is the rotor and cap. Make sure that they are clean. (Not burnt or corroded.) If they are clean then the next step is making sure the timing is close. But this is outside the scope of your question. Good luck.
