Car engine smoking sterring wheel making a wierd noise when its turned.
I was driving to school and everything sounded fine i pulled into the Wawa parking lot and then my car stareted smoking and the steering wheel was making a wierd noise when i turned it like a steady Hum that got louder the farther i turned it. I turned it off and let it cool down and then i got to school. The engine oil is fine little dirty but there is plenty in there. I have a 96 Grand Am GT 3.1L v6. thats all i know.

sounds like your power steering pump is fried and the belt is smoking due to the dragging pump - see if your belt looks worn. i had an alternator freeze up once and caused the same symptoms. look your belts over, bet you find the problem. good luck - look in the pump reservor and see if you have fluid.

How much would that cost to fix I know nothing about cars and i have an appointment to get my car looked at soon. Im in school so i can't check anything right now but i will before i leave school. Could just being low on Power Steering Fuid cause this problem or is the pump fried? and is the damage major like doi have to get the belt replaced(assuming its just low on steering fluid)? how much would that cost im really low on cash.

1st check out the fluid - if its very low it has a leak either one of the hoses or the pump - running it low , what ever the cause will damage the pump. you will have to check it out and then call a parts house to get a price once you find the problem. again good luck
