Default '99 GA Overheating

New thermostat, water pump inspected and appears ok, coolant system full and burped, drive belt tension ok, new surge tank cap, no external coolant leakage. Having said all that, this baby overheats rather quickly. I've checked the heater hoses and water does not circulate thru the heater core consistently. It will for a few seconds and then stops. The motor will overheat and still not be ciculating water thru the the heater core. If the core were plugged, would it ever circulate thru it? Fans and circuits and temp sensor all checked out. Any ideas?

Default RE: '99 GA Overheating

UPDATE!!!! After much research and alot of head scratching, it turns out that sometimes ya just gotta get the tools out and tear into it. I had read an awful lot about these cars and was willing to bet it was the intake gasket. Of course, I would not be that lucky. My 3.4L v-6 actually blew a head gasket between the number one piston and the water jacket. This will pump air into the water jacket when the piston strokes up(explaining lack of circulation and over-pressurizing my coolant tank) and pull anti-freeze into my number one piston on the downstroke--straight into the number one spark plug. My onboard computer did indeed throw me a code stating that number one piston was not firing. Soooo, machine shop checked and milled heads, ground valve seats, and gasket set along with new head bolts, gonna run me about $500 only because I'm doing all the dis-assembly and hopefully re-assembly myself. Hope this helps someone.
